Iman Yusuf - Infrastructure Engineer

Iman Yusuf is a software engineer who specializes in grid and cloud computing. She completed her PhD in reliable distributed computing in RMIT University. As a consequence of her PhD topic, Iman accepts failure as a fact of life. Thus, she endeavours to predict impending failures and avert them. Failing to do that, she aims to recover from a failure quickly.

Culture Amp: What can you do as a CAmper that you haven’t been able to do elsewhere?
Iman Yusuf: I am able to work on much bigger projects than I was used to. Furthermore, these projects present me an opportunity to utilise my background in dependable distributed computing to create highly available and scalable systems.

CA: Best day you’ve ever had at work (here or anywhere else)?
 The day I started at Culture Amp is the best day at work so far. Which company asks its new employee to break the ice by telling a joke on their first day? Culture Amp! To be fair, I was given a choice to tell my joke two weeks after my start date…like that is going to make a difference other than making me obsessed about the joke. I had a fun day filled with meeting lots of people, attending inductions, and having a conversation with the CEO about the core values of the company.

CA: What do you geek out about outside from work?
Football (soccer). I greatly enjoy watching football. Every morning, I need my fix of the BBC gossip column or another similar article.

CA: What’s on your playlist this week?
 The legendary Ethiopian singer, Mahmoud Ahmed.

CA: Where would you go on an all expense paid trip tomorrow?

CA: What does culture first mean to you?
 Culture first means acknowledging your employees as the cornerstone of your company's success. By implementing the culture that values your employees' contributions, your company is setting itself to achieve its monetary as well as customer satisfaction goals.

CA: What was the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Don't be the person that stands between you and your success.

CA: What’s up next in your Netflix queue?
 House of Cards

CA: If you could be a lead character in a movie, who would it be?
Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith, in the Pursuit of Happyness.

CA: Would you take a one way trip to Mars and why/not?
 No, I can't live in the wilderness alone.
