The #CultureFirst series is a chance to showcase the team here at Culture Amp. We asked everyone a few questions which will give you an opportunity to get to know each of us a bit better.
Alexis Prades - People Geek Account Executive - London
Alexis joined us directly from Paris last year for a six-month internship before heading back to France to finish his Masters, while continuing to work for CA. He is now part of our new CAmper team in London. Always looking for new experiences, Alexis found the perfect balance: talk/meet with awesome companies all over the world and help them be better places to work.
Culture Amp: What can you do as a CAmper that you haven’t been able to do elsewhere?
Alexis Prades: Have an impact and truly be myself. I'll always recall joining the team in Melbourne as an intern and after maybe three weeks or one month tops, I did not feel like an intern anymore. This was honestly the first time (and i've done a lot of internships before) I had this feeling and it felt great, thanks to the people I was working with. They trusted me from the very beginning and relied on me no matter my age or my professional background. That made a true difference and it's the kind of thing that made me want to stay and continue to work with Culture Amp. I am also able to learn on a daily basis from really smart and talented people whom I consider more as friends rather than colleagues. When you think about it there is nothing more stimulating than a work environment like that.
CA: Best day you’ve ever had at work (here or anywhere else)?
AP: I was an intern at the hotel Sofitel in Shanghai for a couple of months in the sales & marketing department. My manager gave me the task to go and observe (spy?) on other competitors' hotels - basically do a SWOT analysis. I decided to go to each one of these hotels, well-dressed and completely invented myself a life. I decided I was a young kid of a wealthy family planning his parents 50th birthday. Asking at the lobby to see a sales representative to show me around, especially the different rooms they had to offer (some suites bedroom were just astonishing), the reception rooms etc. Having the complete freedom on how to do my job and also taking my character very seriously was awesome but also not that easy because you really want the sales people to take you seriously and show you everything.
CA: What do you geek out about outside from work?
AP: I'm a big fan of sports in general, especially football (Hope France makes it to the Euro Cup final at home and wins!) I also like basketball, tennis, Formula 1 and many others! Sports are great opportunities to gather with friends and have a really good time.
CA: What did you want to be when you grew up?
AP: I wanted to be a WRC Rally driver. My idol was Colin McRae... my first ever email address was after his name back then.
CA: What is something about you not many people know?
AP: I used to have crazy hair. Don't ask me how, but this is what happens when I let my hair grow. I thought it was gonna be long and nice but it just got big.
CA: Where would you go on an all expense paid trip tomorrow?
AP: I've been very lucky to live in eight different countries around the world and visit many more. There are still lots of places I'd love to go. I guess I'd go to Bora Bora in French Polynesia - get those bungalows perched over the turquoise water and just enjoy the silence and the view. :)
CA: What does culture first mean to you?
AP: Culture first for me is acknowledging that your people are at the center of everything. They are the core value of your business and its success. It's about having your people motivated by the same mission or purpose the company is trying to achieve. You can have the best product or business model in the world, but if your employees don't believe in it and are not motivated, they'll leave you. Put your employees first.. always!
CA: If you could have one super power, what would it be?
AP: To teleport myself so I can explore the world and its secret places whenever I want!
CA: What’s up next in your Netflix queue?
AP: I've just finished season 2 of Bloodline. I loved it! Looking forward to the next Marco Polo and Narcos seasons.
CA: What was the first and last concert you attended?
AP: Actually the first and last is the same: The Police at the Maracaña Stadium in Rio de Janeiro in 2006.
CA: If you won the lottery what would you do first?
AP: Spoil my parents. I know their dream is to get a family house in the south of France or Portugal so that would be the first thing I do - they deserve it. :)
