The #CultureFirst series is a chance to showcase the team here at Culture Amp. We asked everyone a few questions which will give you an opportunity to get to know each of us a bit better.
Alexis Croswell – Associate Marketing Manager (San Francisco)
Alexis has a passion for storytelling and she works on Culture Amp’s written content strategy. She is also the keeper of our company swag. You can find her biking around the city or singing along to tunes while cooking in her tiny San Francisco kitchen.
Culture Amp: What can you do as a CAmper that you haven’t been able to do elsewhere?
Alexis Croswell: I love getting to meet our customers and tell their culture first stories through our blog. I’ve worked in sales and then in operations (both in startups) so the transition into marketing at Culture Amp completed the circle for me. Workplace culture is under a microscope now more than ever. I’m excited to be at a company that is contributing to that conversation and truly lives by its values.
CA: Best day you’ve ever had at work (here or anywhere else)?
AC: My best day at Culture Amp is any time I get to speak with a customer or HR expert. Hearing their stories of transformation and success are inspiring. It’s come full circle for me to work at a company that is dedicated to improving people analytics and helping companies make better decisions for their culture.
CA: What do you geek out about outside from work?
AC: I love to cook and I also love to try new activities. Whether it’s making wonton soup for the first time, or driving up north to go zip-lining, I love to experience life with good people. I’m also on a mission to try every Ethiopian restaurant in San Francisco, as I am a fan of delicious vegan food.
CA: What did you want to be when you grew up?
AC: I thought that being a juror was a job so I wanted to do that until I learned not only was it not a job, but it was a task that everyone loathes (I’ve yet to serve on a jury, I know, so sad). I have also wanted to be a voice actor (for a cartoon), write a book (still a goal), and live in the jungle with animals. You know, just a few things.
CA: What is something about you not many people know?
AC: I’m left-handed. Hands down (pun intended) this is always shocking when I tell people. It’s as if it’s some secret I’ve been keeping from them throughout our relationship and now they look at me in a whole new light. In reality, we just don’t look at people’s hands when they write as much as we think we might, and I rarely hand write things anymore. The truth is out there, accept me as your lefty friend.
CA: What’s on your playlist this week?
AC: Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Grimes, LP, Beck, Marina and the Diamonds.
CA: Where would you go on an all expense paid trip tomorrow?
AC: Hawaii – I’ve always wanted to go! I pretty much always want to be on a beach.
CA: What does culture first mean to you?
AC: It means sustaining your business by focusing on your people first. Employees are the backbone of any company and it’s common sense that happy and engaged people are going to do better work.
CA: Do you have any startup / culture idols?
AC: I think Zappos has done great things with their culture in terms of embracing the weirdness and letting people be themselves. I’m a big fan of Delivering Happiness – both the ideas in the book and the company.
CA: If you could have one super power, what would it be?
AC: Can I be a wizard? I just want to go to Hogwarts. Seriously.
CA: You pick a magazine up to read – what is it?
AC: Real Simple or Wired.
CA: What’s up next in your Netflix queue?
CA: If you could be a lead character in a movie, who would it be?
AC: Lara Croft – Tomb Raider.
CA: What was the first and last concert you attended?
AC: First: Chicago. Last: Max Frost.
CA: If you won the lottery what would you do first?
AC: Take my family on a vacation.
