The #CultureFirst series is a chance to showcase the team here at Culture Amp. We asked everyone a few questions which will give you an opportunity to get to know each of us a bit better.
Tanya Neary - People Geek / Account Executive - Melbourne
Starting her career in financial services in Ireland, Tanya has worked with HR teams across the areas of recruitment and employee benefits since moving to Australia just under seven years ago. Tanya is a bit of a foodie and is happiest when eating, chatting or traveling.
Culture Amp: What can you do as a CAmper that you haven’t been able to do elsewhere?
Tanya Neary: Working in a multi-disciplinary team where there is a lot of support, makes me think about how my actions impact the greater team. It drives the decisions I make and I definitely think a lot of companies could benefit from this type of structure.
CA: Best day you’ve ever had at work (here or anywhere else)?
TN: At Culture Amp it was probably bringing onboard my first client. I tried to play it cool but I was definitely stoked! Also had quite an interesting night with the team at a Geekup which turned into quite a late finish involving karaoke. I don't think I have ever worked at a company with such a keen interest in karaoke.
CA: What do you geek out about outside from work?
TN: Books and food. I generally prefer reading a book to watching a movie - fact or fiction I am not fussed as long as it is an actual book (I'm coming out of my John Green phase and no Kindle for me thanks). I am also either thinking about, cooking or eating food. I frequently ask people what they have eaten for breakfast/lunch/dinner which some people find quite strange.
CA: What did you want to be when you grew up?
TN: A marine biologist or a buyer. I am petrified of sharks thanks to Jaws and although I like clothes and house interiors I cannot stand shopping. I think it was probably for the best that I did not pursue either of those careers!
CA: What is something about you not many people know?
TN: I came to Australia via South East Asia with a stranger I met on the internet. Possibly one of the most random things I have ever done. Most of my friends back home were either settled or not ready to travel so I had to find a plan B! Thankfully Vicky was laid back, easy going and great to travel with.
CA: What’s on your playlist this week?
TN: I am switching between Disclosure, Sia, FKA Twigs, Flight Facilitates and Flume Pandora channels at the mo!
CA: Where would you go on an all-expense paid trip tomorrow?
TN: I have to say a round the world trip, surely? First stop would be a South African safari.
CA: What does culture first mean to you?
TN: An inclusive, accepting and supportive environment that puts people first while working towards a common goal. It's not easy but the best things in life always take work.
CA: What was the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
TN: Be yourself everyone else is taken.
