The #CultureFirst series is a chance to showcase the team here at Culture Amp. We asked everyone a few questions which will give you an opportunity to get to know each of us a bit better.
Allison (Allee) Gette - People Geek - San Francisco
A recent graduate of Santa Clara University, Allee works with the sales and marketing teams to spread the word about Culture Amp and make the world a better place to work. Outside of the office, she can be found practicing Muay Thai and re-reading Harry Potter.
Culture Amp: What can you do as a CAmper that you haven’t been able to do elsewhere?
Allee Gette: Though I've only been working at Culture Amp for fewer than two months, I've really enjoyed working on projects with people on other teams. Not only does this allow me to learn and grow, it also gives me insight into other people's perspectives, and it's always fun to get to know new people!
CA: Best day you’ve ever had at work (here or anywhere else)?
AG: I've been very lucky to have had a number of great experiences during my internships prior to joining the workforce. One of my favorite memories was during my internship at Tommy Hilfiger, when I helped to coordinate the attendees at their fashion show during New York Fashion Week. I met so many interesting people and got to see an amazing show from behind the scenes.
CA: What do you geek out about outside from work?
AG: There are quite a few things that I geek out about so I'll just list them: Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, movie musicals, Muay Thai, adventuring outdoors, camping, singing and quality ramen.
CA: What did you want to be when you grew up?
AG: I wanted to be an actress, but then I saw the TV show Bones and decided that I'd be better off as a forensic anthropologist. Not entirely sure how that led me into sales and marketing.
CA: What is something about you not many people know?
AG: I'm classically trained in opera, but don't ask me to sing for you, because I won't. Seriously, I won't do it.
CA: What’s on your playlist this week?
AG: One of my friends is starring in the musical Chicago, so I've been listening to the movie soundtrack lately. Normally, though, I'll listen to anything except country.
CA: Where would you go on an all expense paid trip tomorrow?
AG: Back to Botswana! After graduation, my mom and I spent time there at two safari camps in the Okavango Delta. Hands down the best experience I've ever had.
CA: What does culture first mean to you?
AG: To me, Culture First means accepting the human aspect of the workplace. Successful companies are often the result of hard-working human beings who are treated like people, rather than like cogs in a machine. The happier and more engaged employees are, the better the company functions on the whole.
CA: What was the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
AG: The best advice I've been given was to consider everything that happens as the best possible event that could occur. Although it might feel bad at the time, keeping a positive mindset will ultimately create a positive outcome. It all depends on your perspective.
CA: If you could have one super power, what would it be?
AG: I'd love to have slayer powers, like in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I really am that much of a geek.
